AS NESTOS was founded in 1988 with the aim of developing asparagus growing - which at that time was a new cultivated species for Greece - and the joint disposal of the produced products. Growth in the region has been rapid and successful. In 2004 the Cooperative expanded its activity by introducing to its members the cultivation of the kiwi. In 2014, the Association listed 120 members.

In 2006, the Producers’ Group of AS NESTOS was recognized in accordance with Regulation (EC) 2200/96 and the Five-Year Recognition Plan, which included investments in infrastructure and equipment, was implemented with great success. On 03/05/2011, as defined by the OPs' Operating Law, the Producers’ Group has become a Producer Organization, a form in which it will continue to operate in the future. The cooperative is a member of the Asparagus Research and Development Institute and participates with it at all International Fruit and Vegetable Exhibitions. The decision to recognize the PG AS NESTOS was modified with the n. Protocol 04/13534 / 18-9-2015 of the Region of East Macedonia and Thrace, Directorate of Rural Development & Food.  It is a producer organization in the fruit and vegetable sector and in particular: asparagus, kiwi fruit, plums, peaches, apricots and nectarines within the meaning of Regulation (EC) 1308/2013 and Regulation 543/2011 of the European Community and the provisions of the PD. 36/1986.

AS NESTOS is one of the most robust and growing Cooperative Associations of the East Macedonia-Thrace Region. With an annual turnover of 3.5-4.9 million euro, more than 70 co-operating producers with a total cultivated area of over 2,500 acres in total for all crops are rightly considered as one of the main development pillars of the wider region. Particular emphasis should be placed on the purely export character of the business, since more than 85% of its revenue is derived from sales of products abroad, both inside or outside the European Union.

Integrated Management is the way of managing crops aimed at producing high-quality agricultural products using appropriate methods and inputs so that there is an economic benefit for the producer and a reduced burden on the environment and human health. Integrated management products are produced in accordance with specific standards and rules to protect the health of consumers and the environment.
